Earlier this month, President Trump sent a letter to Pro-Life leaders, highlighting his Pro-Life policies and accomplishments over the past four years. The president also committed to advancing Pro-Life priorities if elected for a second term, including fully defunding Planned Parenthood.
In 2016, President Trump was elected on a strongly Pro-Life platform. The Trump Administration has followed through on many of the promised protections for innocent human Life, including eliminating taxpayer funding to abortion businesses through international aid and Title X, the federal family planning program.
In his letter, President Trump also noted among his Pro-Life victories the confirmation of Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, as well as more than 200 lower-court judges. The abortion mob knows that the unsound Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion in all 50 states, will likely be overturned if the Supreme Court has a majority of Constitutionally minded justices on the bench. That is why abortion activists viciously attacked Justice Kavanaugh throughout his confirmation hearing.
With the recent passing of pro-abortion Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the abortion mob will fight the re-election of President Trump even harder, fearing that a strong Pro-Life president will be able to nominate another justice.
In addition to these Pro-Life advancements, the Trump Administration also worked to affirm conscience protections for Pro-Life doctors and medical professionals. The abortion industry has tried for years to “normalize” abortion claiming that ending the lives of preborn babies is health care. There is no legitimate medical procedure that intentionally ends the Life of a patient, and ensuring that Pro-Life medical professionals are protected from participating in an abortion is essential to the integrity of medicine.
In light of the bombshell undercover investigation of abortion businesses, including Planned Parenthood, selling the body parts of babies killed in abortion, the Trump Administration also made a priority of ending funding to research that uses baby body parts. After canceling U.S. Food and Drug Administration contracts that involved purchasing tens of thousands of dollars of baby body parts to make “humanized mice,” President Trump received backlash and was accused of being “anti-science.” There is no conflict between Pro-Life principles and science. Many experiments that do not endanger human Life show some of the many possible avenues for advancing science and medicine while defending the lives of the most vulnerable.
In addition to these administrative and judicial advancements, President Trump has been perhaps the most vocally Pro-Life president in our nation’s history. He was the first president to appear in person at the national March for Life and has consistently made bold Pro-Life statements in his speeches.
In his letter to Pro-Life leaders and activists, President Trump vowed to continue Pro-Life policies if elected for a second term. Among his priorities, he wrote that in the second term he would continue to nominate strongly conservative, Pro-Life judges for lower courts. He also called on Pro-Lifers to work together to overcome the anti-Life Democrat filibuster that has thus far prevented the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation like Texas’s 20-week abortion ban that protects babies in the womb who undeniably feel the pain of abortion. The president also wants to see the passage of the No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act, which would ensure that taxpayer dollars cannot pay for the elective killing of preborn babies. Because anti-Life Democrats have become increasingly extreme on abortion and want to force taxpayers to foot the bill for elective abortion, this priority item has never been more important.
Readers might be wondering why the president failed fully to defund Planned Parenthood in his first term. Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion business in the United States, had a record number of abortions in 2018, ending the lives of 345,672 preborn babies, while still receiving taxpayer money for the few legitimate health screenings and services they provide. The reality is, as we have seen in Texas, the Planned Parenthood Goliath has managed to find ways into many streams of taxpayer funding. Eliminating every dollar of taxpayer money going to the abortion business requires a budget-wide rider that prevents abortion businesses from coopting money through programs not intended to pay for abortions.
President Trump has a demonstrated record of defending Life. His letter to Pro-Life advocates shows that he recognizes the need to prioritize Pro-Life policies in his second term. With the radical anti-Life ticket being run by the Democrats, President Trump’s proven Pro-Life commitment will be essential to securing his re-election.
