Notoriously radical Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) claims Planned Parenthood is a life-saving medical provider. AOC ignores the fact that Planned Parenthood is the single largest abortion business in the United States.
Far from “saving lives,” Planned Parenthood ends the lives of more than 300,000 preborn babies every year. The most recent annual report for 2018-2019 revealed that Planned Parenthood affiliates across the country committed 345,672 abortions in a single year.
AOC made her comments during a House committee hearing called Birthing While Black: Examining America’s Black Maternal Health Crisis.
Planned Parenthood ends the lives of more black babies through abortion than any other organization in the world. Planned Parenthood also has a history of racism and eugenics, and is undeniably a suspect organization when examining the disproportionately high maternal mortality rate among black women.
Instead of addressing these serious concerns, AOC claimed the committee needed to focus on “how many lives Planned Parenthood has saved.” She said, “If we want to talk about Planned Parenthood, let’s talk about how many lives Planned Parenthood has saved and how many babies have been born because of the prenatal care provided by Planned Parenthood.”
AOC claimed that she was a “Planned Parenthood baby” because her mother sought prenatal care through the abortion business.
In response to AOC’s comments Pro-Lifers were quick to remind her that prenatal services represent only a fraction of what Planned Parenthood does. Almost unbelievably, what few referrals for prenatal care Planned Parenthood offers are dwindling.
Reports in recent years have shown many Planned Parenthood locations turn away women seeking prenatal care, claiming that ultrasounds at Planned Parenthood are only used for abortions, not to date a pregnancy or refer mothers for prenatal services.
Beyond prenatal services, other legitimate healthcare at Planned Parenthood, such as cancer screenings, are also declining.
What is increasing is the total number of abortions committed at Planned Parenthood and the market share of abortions.
While many independent abortion businesses are closing, Planned Parenthood mega abortion mills placed in urban centers are increasing their business, ending the lives of more preborn babies.
Contrary to what AOC claims, Planned Parenthood is clearly not in the business of saving lives.
AOC, who never misses an opportunity to tout her woke opinions, told the committee, “I don’t want to hear a single person on this committee or outside of this committee talk about valuing life when they continue to uphold the death penalty, when they continue to support policies that disproportionately incarcerate and lead to the deaths of black men and people throughout this country and uphold an absolutely unjust medical system that exists for-profit that allows people to die because they can’t afford to live.”
AOC’s diatribe is an all-too-common misrepresentation of the Pro-Life position that avoids the gruesome reality of abortion.
Abortion, the deliberate, violent killing of an innocent and defenseless preborn child, is unlike any other form of killing and is the gravest injustice of our time.
The other scenarios AOC brings up do not in any way excuse the barbarity and injustice of abortion. AOC’s pet political causes are presented as a distraction from the reality of abortion.
In another common attempt to silence Pro-Lifers, AOC said, “so if we are concerned about life we don’t get to talk about anyone else who’s not concerned about the whole spectrum of that when we are upholding policies that kill people.”
AOC’s casual suggestion that disagreeing with her policy positions is harmful and that the medical industry exists to kill people ignores the fact that every single abortion actually kills at least one person.
When you think Planned Parenthood, think abortion, and think of the murder of innocent children. As America’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood ends the lives of hundreds of thousands of preborn babies every year, which is clearly not the same thing as “saving lives.”
