Pro-abortion Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: “Is it okay to still have children?”

Socialist media darling and pro-abortion congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D- New York) raised eyebrows with remarks made over the weekend about her Green New Deal. Ocasio-Cortez, best known for nonsensical interviews and her savvy use of social media, appeared in a live-streaming video on Instagram. While cutting up sweet potatoes, Ocasio-Cortez explained the world according to a pro-abortion socialist.

Specifically, Ocasio-Cortez went on social media to promote her Green New Deal, described as a “massive transformation of our society” that would entail massive expansion of government debt to fund radical proposals to “combat” climate change. The theory of government debt underpinning Ocasio-Cortez’s radical plan was called “just wrong” by Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.

Ocasio-Cortez is never one to let a few facts stand in her way and charged ahead with her Green New Deal, telling viewers on her Instagram, “The whole premise of the Green New Deal, is that we’re screwed on climate. I’m sorry to break it to you.” She continued, “When it comes to climate in particular, we’re actually screwed. There is a global threat to the planet.”

Ocasio-Cortez claimed that, in additional to colossal student debt prompting Millennials to hold off having children, people are asking whether they should have kids because the world is such a disaster. She said, “Our planet is going to face disaster if we don’t turn this ship around. And so it’s basically like, there is a scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult and it does lead, I think young people, to have a legitimate question. Ya know, should—is it okay to still have children?”

Ocasio-Cortez’s suggestion that young people are “legitimate” to question ever having children because of climate change could be written off as just another extremist statement by the freshmen member who loves the spotlight. However, there is something more insidious in her question.

Ocasio-Cortez, who is currently childless and supports taxpayer-funded abortion on-demand, is perpetuating the myth that overpopulation is contributing to the destruction of our planet. The first question to ask is if overpopulation exists at all.

The Population Research Institute has released a series of videos illustrating scientific studies showing that overpopulation is not the threat abortion activists claim. Using population statistics from the United Nation’s Population Division, PRI shows that population growth will likely halt around 8 billion by 2045. After that? In a very different future catastrophe than Ocasio-Cortez predicts, as global fertility rates continue to decline, population will likely begin to fall, first slowly, then dramatically.

In pushing her extremist views, Ocasio-Cortez suggests that the question of whether to have children at all is “legitimate.” At the same time, Ocasio-Cortez advocates that taxpayer should fund all abortions in the United States. There are few actions more despicable than telling a mother that her child will live in some indescribable, catastrophic future but she can avoid that and perhaps even make the planet a better place by ending her child’s life in a taxpayer-funded abortion.

Ocasio-Cortez fails to understand how government debt works and why the American people do not want to fund her socialist wish list, and she misses the full economic and cultural cost of abortion. As a nation, we cannot advance by slaughtering the preborn.

Elsewhere in her Instagram video, Ocasio-Cortez revealed how out-of-touch she is. Continually advocating increased wages and affordable housing for marginalized populations, since taking public office Ocasio-Cortez has moved into high-end housing.

Launching into her typical extemporaneous ramble, she said, “It’s so funny like, like, it gets so weird with all this media attention because this is not a normal thing. It’s really not normal, and what’s really weird is that it just gets so like, it’s so crazy, it’s like people are literally, it feels to me like hysteria, but maybe it’s because all of this stuff is about me,” she said. “Yeah, I live in the same neighborhood but I had to move apartments because you know, death threats—slash, I needed two bedrooms.”

There is a legitimate question about whether Ocasio-Cortez knows what she is talking about. If you’re not asking that, you weren’t paying attention.
