Trump Taps Pro-Life Pastor For Housing And Urban Development Secretary

A Texas pastor, former NFL star, and Pro-Life advocate is among the latest of Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees to field questions in this week’s Senate confirmation hearings.

If confirmed, Turner will serve as the next Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Turner earned a 100% Pro-Life voting record during his tenure as a state representative in the Texas House from 2013 to 2016. Turner helped lead efforts to end taxpayer funding of anti-Life, embryo-destroying research at Texas universities. His amendment to the state budget that would have blocked all funding of embryo-destroying research failed to pass due to obstruction by anti-Life Republicans.

Turner is an associate pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church and a passionate advocate for adoption. He and his wife, Robin, adopted their nephew when he was 10.

Before his time in the Texas Legislature, Turner played football for the University of Illinois, where he met his wife, and spent nine seasons in the NFL playing for the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and Denver Broncos.

Trump first tapped Turner to serve in his administration in April 2019 as the head of the new White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council. The council’s goal was to encourage businesses to invest in economically depressed areas with federal tax incentives.

If confirmed as HUD Secretary, Turner would oversee national housing policies and programs. The department runs initiatives that aim to reduce homelessness and promote home ownership.

In addition to appointing Pro-Life advocates to his cabinet, Donald Trump can do much more to save babies from abortion as president. Christians call on Trump to:

  • Block tax dollars from funding abortions in other countries (known as the Mexico City Policy);
  • Restore FDA safety protocols on an abortion pill;
  • Work with Congress to pass federal protections for preborn children; and
  • Defund Planned Parenthood.

Texas Right to Life congratulates Turner on his appointment. Pro-Life Texans are encouraged to have a local champion serving in the Trump administration.
