Did you know that Texas law ALLOWS pulling the plug on you or your loved one AGAINST YOUR WILL?!
For many Texas families, this horrible scenario is REAL.
The Texas 10-Day Rule removes life-or-death decisions from patients and families and lets a hospital committee decide if you live or die. The law only gives you 10 days’ notice of this impending imposed death.
Don’t let this happen to you.
Will you call your state senator right now to END the anti-Life 10-Day Rule? The Texas Senate is scheduled to vote on the Pro-Life Respecting Texas Patients’ Right to Life Act this week!
Don’t worry! Calling is faster and easier than you think and makes a HUGE difference!
- Call the Capitol switchboard: (512) 463-4630;
- Ask the operator to connect you to your state senator;
- Encourage your state senator to pass the Respecting Texas Patients’ Right to Life Act (SB 917). You can use this sample script:
Hi, my name is _______ and I live in [city].
I ask you to please support Senate Bill 917 by Senator Bryan Hughes. This bill would repeal the 10-Day Rule, which takes life-and-death decisions away from patients and families.
We must put the Right to Life of Texans first. I want my family and I to make medical decisions that impact my life, not a committee.
I ask you to please support Senate Bill 917.
If you cannot call your state senator, please send an email here.
You don’t have to be an expert on the bill to make a difference! Your senator simply wants to know that you care about this issue.
If all of us call now, we WILL make a difference! This may be hard to believe, but this has worked before!
The Respecting Texas Patients’ Right to Life Act (Senate Bill 917) will protect Texas patients from imposed death after a 10-day countdown.
The 10-Day Rule allows a hospital ethics committee to withdraw basic life-sustaining care, like a ventilator or dialysis, from a patient against her expressed will, against her advance directive, or against her family member’s instructions. Ten days after informing the patient or family of the decision of the hospital committee, the hospital can remove life-sustaining care from a patient. Committees can withdraw care for any reason (even non-medical reasons). Even if the patient is conscious, coherent, and actively requests to stay alive, the 10-Day Rule allows the hospital to overrule the patient’s will.
SB 917 was voted out of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services today, and now the bill will head to the full Senate for a vote.
But the powerful medical lobby is working overtime to deceive your senators and kill this bill that would protect patients.
Take two minutes to call your state senator’s office.

If you want to understand more about the draconian current 10-Day Rule, or if you don’t think your support will matter, just watch these families share their heartbreaking stories.
We are closer than ever to finally protecting patients and repealing this unjust law – thanks to you. But we only have two weeks to accomplish this HUGE goal.
Please call your senator now. Capitol switchboard: (512) 463-4630
No family should be rendered powerless as they watch their loved ones hastened to their deaths against their will.
Thank you for defending vulnerable patients in Texas.
