As Pete Hegseth previously emphasized, the federal government should not fund abortion travel for service members. Now, Biden’s anti-Life policy is officially gone.
The Pentagon announced that this controversial practice ended on January 29.
Hegseth wasn’t the only official striving to end this policy—Republican Senator Tommy Tuberville has been leading the fight since 2023. The Department of Defense had implemented reimbursement for abortion travel without congressional approval, even though funding decisions must go through Congress. Senator Tuberville rightly pointed out, “Congress holds the purse strings,” and policies like this should be subject to a proper vote.

Reflecting on his two-year battle, Tuberville told YellowHammer, “I took a lot of heat when I stood alone for nearly a year, holding up senior Pentagon promotions over this—but as of today, it was all worth it. The Biden administration treated taxpayers like their own personal piggy bank to bankroll their woke agenda. President Trump and Secretary Hegseth affirmed today what I’ve been fighting for since I got to Washington: zero taxpayer dollars should go toward abortions.”
Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, approximately $1 million in taxpayer money has been spent on military abortion travel. Americans should not be forced to fund service members, or their dependents, ending the lives of their unborn children. Our brave military deserves access to genuine care that heals and protects—not policies that destroy life.
Under President Trump, Pete Hegseth stood by his commitment to review the abortion travel policy and advised the president to end it. Praise God for everyone involved in ending this practice, fostering a safer and more compassionate environment for preborn babies, our service members, and women across America.
However, your taxpayer money still supports abortion, not only at the federal level, but even through liberal local policies in Texas. Austin and San Antonio announced plans to pay for pregnant women’s flights, hotel rooms, and other travel costs for abortions in other states. Texans should never be forced to fund the killing of preborn babies, the trafficking of young girls, or the coercion of vulnerable women. That’s why Texas Right to Life is urging lawmakers to pass new bills this year that would stop local governments from funding abortion groups and would target illegal abortions.
