When Does Life Begin?
When a woman becomes pregnant, the baby growing inside her is already a living human. This little Life begins at fertilization when a sperm and egg meet, creating a new human being with a unique set of DNA. This tiny person will continue to grow and develop until natural death. From the very start, the baby is preparing for Life outside the womb.

Sadly, many people today do not recognize the value of Life before birth. Babies in the womb are small, hidden, and vulnerable. Because of this, abortion has become common in our society. Abortion ends a pregnancy by killing a preborn baby.
Types of Abortion:
There are two main types of abortion: chemical abortion (pills) and surgical abortion.
Chemical Abortion (Abortion Pills):
The most common type of abortion in the U.S. is abortion pills. These pills were first approved in 2000 and are now used more than surgical abortions.
The abortion pill process involves two drugs:
- Mifepristone β Blocks the hormone progesterone, cutting off nutrients and oxygen to the baby.
- Misoprostol β Causes the uterus to contract, forcing the baby out.

Why Are Abortion Pills Increasing?
- Convenience: Women can take them at home without visiting a clinic.
- Lower Cost for Abortion Providers: Clinics save money by avoiding in-person procedures.
- Illegal Sales in Pro-Life States: In Texas and other states with abortion restrictions, abortion pills are mailed in from other states and countries. Studies estimate that around 20,000 abortion pills are shipped to Texas each year.

Dangers of Abortion Pills:
Abortion pills are dangerous for the mother, especially if taken without medical supervision.
Risks include:
- Severe bleeding if the baby is farther along in development;
- Life-threatening complications if the woman has an ectopic pregnancy; and
- Fertility risks if she has an incompatible Rh factor, which could affect future pregnancies.
Surgical Abortion:
Surgical abortions are typically performed in abortion facilities and vary depending on the gestational age of the baby.

Types of Surgical Abortion:
- Aspiration (Suction) Abortion: Used in the first trimester, the baby is removed by suction.
- Dilation and Evacuation (D&E): Used in the second trimester, forceps are used to dismember and remove the baby.
- Dilation and Extraction (D&X or Partial-Birth Abortion): In late-term abortions, the baby is partially delivered before being killed.
Surgical abortion comes with serious risks, such as:
- Infection
- Heavy bleeding
- Uterine damage
- Long-term fertility issues
Even though Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortion numbers have increased in the U.S. Many women feel pressured into abortion because they believe they have no other choice. Society does little to support mothers and families, making abortion seem like the only option. This is not true. We must pass stronger laws to protect women and children from these lethal drugs and ensure we have resources to support Life in Texas.
