Sylvia Johnson, founder and CEO of Houston Pregnancy Help Center, spoke to A&M’s Pro-Life Aggies about how abortion specifically targets the African American community. She discussed statistics of the strategic placement of abortion clinics in low income, minority neighborhoods, as well as the disproportionately high abortion rates for African American women as compared to Caucasian women of the same age and income level. Many new members were most impacted by her discussion of Margaret Sanger’s racist, eugenicist motivations for founding Planned Parenthood. Sylvia encouraged the students to reach out to more African Americans and invite them into the Pro-Life movement and to volunteer at pregnancy resource centers in our area, as they truly are the front lines of the fight for Life.
