Friend —
Written by Thomas Jefferson, these profound words have served as the foundation of our national identity for 238 years. Each year on July 4th, Americans come together to celebrate this declaration of individual liberty and to honor all those who defend her.
We celebrate our nation’s independence as we delight in the freedoms that are uniquely American.
Yet, in the midst of the festivities there remains a tragic reality: Millions have been and are being denied the individual freedoms that we tend to take for granted. Before they can take their first breath outside the womb, they are refused the rights that are guaranteed by our nation’s founding documents: the right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
They are the silent victims of the abortion holocaust that takes the lives of an estimated 1.2 million unborn children every year in America. These individuals whom Jefferson described as “created equal” and “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights” have become victims of the greatest human rights violations in American history. Since the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade, an estimated 55 million unborn children — our fellow citizens — have been lost to the tragedy of abortion.
While we enjoy family gatherings, picnics, parades, and fireworks as a celebration of our freedom, millions are denied the most fundamental inalienable right, the Right to Life. There is a good reason why our founding fathers listed Life as the first right: because without Life, there is no Liberty or pursuit of Happiness.
To protect the Right to Life is to realize the highest American value; a value that is paramount to the majority of Texans.
As you celebrate our nation’s freedom, I encourage you to join Texas Right to Life’s efforts to protect and defend the inalienable rights of Texans, but particularly the Right to Life. Join Texas Right to Life and take a #Stand4Life. At Texas Right to Life, we are grateful that we live in a nation where we can work diligently to help end this societal injustice.
Yours for Life,
