Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) has not yet released its 2008 Annual Report. However, according to their recent factsheet, they committed 324,008 abortions in 2008. This was an increase of more than 6% over the 305,310 abortions they had performed in 2007. Although we do not yet have reliable national figures for 2008, according to the 2005 numbers provided by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, this represents roughly 26.8% of all abortions performed in the United States.
As in their 2007 Annual Report, PPFA’s factsheet downplays the significance of abortion to their business. They attempt to mislead by claiming that abortion represents only 3% of its services. Their other services, however, are much more routine and provide much less money to the organization; their abortion services account for over one-third of their entire income.
