Obama spreads myth that Planned Parenthood is champion of women´s health

In a video message to Planned Parenthood supporters yesterday, President Obama called women “capable” and important. Then he lied to them.

President Obama said that Planned Parenthood offers mammograms. They don’t.

No Planned Parenthood facility in the entire nation has the license, equipment, or medical expertise to perform them.

Obama said that if Planned Parenthood’s funding is cut, that women will be left to “fend for themselves.” They won’t.

Planned Parenthood is not the only place women can go for breast exams, cervical cancer screenings, and family planning services.

In fact, Planned Parenthood facilities are the minority when it comes to serving low-income women. Medicaid-funded Federally Qualified Health Centers outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities in Texas three to one. Nationally, 10 to one. And they perform all of the above services.

STD testing? Look to the Centers for Disease control. HIVtest.org offers a comprehensive list of every clinic in the nation that performs STD testing, searchable by zip code.

Within a 10-mile radius of my own zip code, I found four centers that offer free HIV tests. None of them were Planned Parenthood.

What about rural women? Don’t count on Planned Parenthood to be there for them.

In Texas, Planned Parenthood centers congregate in the metro areas and the populous regions near the Texas-Mexico border. Federally Qualified Health Centers, however, purposefully serve both rural and urban patients.

On the left side of the image, the yellow and red dots represent Planned Parenthood abortion mills and family planning/abortion-referring centers, respectively. On the right, the markers represent Federally Qualified Health Centers.

Planned Parenthood is not the bastion of women’s health Obama says it is. Neither is Obama himself.

Obama has consistently prioritized the abortion lobby over women’s health, and just one clear example of that prioritization can be seen here in Texas.

Last year, Governor Perry and the Texas legislature banned abortion businesses from participation in the Women’s Health Program, a Medicaid-funded program that provided preventative care to low-income women. Obama said that the move left women out in the cold.

They weren’t left out — until Obama stepped in. Because Planned Parenthood was excluded, Obama shut down the entire program. Now, 130,000 Texan women will be without preventative care.

In his video, Obama said that politicians are working to “deny millions of women the care they rely on.” Nobody wants to take away women’s healthcare, except, apparently, Obama.

For an abortioneer like Obama, when real healthcare and abortion collide, abortion always comes out on top.
