The pro-abortion advocacy group, NARAL Pro-Choice America, has issued a report card listing every state in the country, and graded them based on state laws limiting abortion. The more Pro-life laws a state has, the lower the grade. Pro-Life Texans can take pride in the fact that their state flunked.
Nineteen states received a failing grade based on the stricter abortion laws in the state. Texas was joined by Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, and Virginia. Thirteen states received between a C+ and a D-. The two states that received a perfect score were California and Washington: both were “awarded” an A+ for ardently allowing Planned Parenthood to be funded by taxpayers. NARAL also generated a point system identifying the most Pro-Life state (North Dakota) and most Pro-Choice state (California).
The report card comes as many newly elected Pro-life state legislators enter their positions. With these stronger Pro-life legislatures, many new Pro-life laws and limits on abortions are expected, all of which are important to the Life movement: some states are looking to stop the funding of abortion under ObamaCare; some will follow Nebraska and ban abortions after the 20 week mark based on fetal pain; others will be passing more traditional Pro-Life legislation like unborn victims bills and parental notification laws.
President of NARAL Pro-Choice America, Nancy Keenan, complained that the Pro-Life victories in the 2010 election cycle pose “serious threats to the progress we celebrated in previous years.” She has previously dubbed the Pro-Life in America the “radical anti-choice fringe” who do not represent the majority of America. However, a May 2010 Gallup poll showed that for the third year in a row, the majority of Americans view themselves as Pro-Life (47% Pro-Life vs. 45% pro-abortion).
Nancy Keenan and NARAL are known for condemning Pro-Life groups and recently labeled Americans United for Life and other Pro-Life groups, “extremist anti-choice” and ridiculed them for defending new Pro-Life Speaker of the House John Boehner. Keenan has repeatedly told her supporters that “anti-choice extremists” will work to eliminate reproductive rights under the new Pro-Life Congress. The report card issued notes stating that since 1995 state legislatures have enacted 644 Pro-Life laws and garnered a two-decade drop in abortions.
While NARAL issued this report to show the states that are anti-choice, the report is a clear indication that the majority of Americans support Pro-Life legislation. This report, coming from a pro-abortion advocacy group, shows that people are shifting to a more Life-centered way of living and the pro-abortion advocates and groups are threatened by the growing number of Americans who are standing up for the lives of the unborn and the women affected by abortion. If standing up for Life determines a failing grade, we’ll take it as the red badge of courage and continue to stand for the Mission of Life.
