JD Vance Slams UK for Arresting Pro-Life Advocate Over Silent Prayer

Vice President JD Vance surprised European leaders by criticizing their approach to free speech, Pro-Life advocacy, and even prayer. This historic speech was given at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on February 14.

Vance warned that Europe’s biggest threat isn’t Russia or China, but its own internal decline. To illustrate his point, he highlighted a shocking case from the United Kingdom—a man arrested for praying silently outside an abortion clinic.

“A little over two years ago, the British government charged Adam Smith-Connor, a 51-year-old physiotherapist and army veteran, with the heinous crime of standing 50 meters from an abortion clinic and silently praying for three minutes,” Vance stated.

Smith-Connor told Fox News he had no signs and stood quietly behind a tree, yet law enforcement approached him, demanding to know what he was praying about. His response? “It was on behalf of my unborn son,” whom he and his girlfriend had aborted years prior.

Despite his peaceful actions, Smith-Connor was found guilty of violating the UK’s new buffer zone law, which criminalizes silent prayer and other acts that might “influence” a person’s decision within 200 meters of an abortion facility. He was sentenced to pay £9,000 in legal costs to the prosecution.

This attack on free speech is not unique to the United Kingdom. In the U.S., the Biden administration targeted 23 Pro-Life advocates, imprisoning them for praying and standing outside abortion clinics. Thankfully, President Trump has since pardoned them, but the fight for justice is far from over.

Vance’s willingness to challenge America’s allies on these issues is commendable, but the battle doesn’t end with words. There is still urgent work to be done to protect preborn babies and their mothers in America.

One crucial step President Trump and Vice President Vance must take is stopping the dangerous rise of mail-order abortion pills. One key solution is already in place: the Comstock Act of 1873. This long-standing law prohibits mailing obscene materials, including abortion drugs. Right now, the abortion industry relies on telehealth to kill more and more preborn babies, accounting for 189,000 abortions in 2024. The Trump administration could use the Comstock Act to prosecute individuals and groups shipping abortion pills. This would immediately undercut mail-order abortions and save lives, even in blue states.

Justice must be served, babies need protection, and the law must be upheld. Join us in prayer that this administration will take decisive action to protect Life, defend free speech, and restore a culture that values both mothers and their preborn children.
