Houston Catholic Church Desecrated Amid Abortion Activist Attacks

Amidst national pro-abortion attacks on Catholic churches, a Houston area church was robbed and its tabernacle and Eucharistic hosts desecrated. The tabernacle, carrying the Eucharist which Catholics revere as the body of Christ, was stolen Sunday evening.

The day before the robbery the abortion group “Ruth Sent Us” announced they would continue the national attacks against Christians, saying, “We will remain outraged after this weekend, so keep praying. We’ll be burning the Eucharist to show our disgust.”

The tabernacle was recovered Wednesday where it was tossed aside by a fast food restaurant. The tabernacle was cracked open and the Eucharistic hosts were missing. The fact that the golden tabernacle was left and the Eucharist stolen evidences the clearly demonic nature of this egregiously evil act.

Desecration of the Eucharist is the highest form of sacrilege in the Catholic faith.

Groups like “Ruth Sent Us” have been issuing violent calls to action against Christians since the Supreme Court draft suggesting the overturn of Roe v. Wade was leaked. According to these groups they are targeting Christians, Catholics especially, for their public efforts in defense of the preborn against abortion.

Catholics across Houston and the nation mourned the heartbreaking desecration. Pro-Life activist and Houston Catholic priest Fr. David Michael Moses addressed the sacrilegious attacks.

On Sunday, the Church next to mine had the tabernacle with the Blessed Sacrament inside, stolen during the night. Someone asked me: “Why? Why would the Lord allow Himself to be taken?” Well, the timing is no accident.

At a time in our country when children are violently taken from the safest, most sacred space for them, the womb, so too the Lord allowed Himself to be taken from the safest, most sacred space we have for Him, the Church.

What was supposed to be a place of security and life, became a place of attack and emptiness.

Jesus is willing to suffer with the children who lose their lives to abortion, and we should be willing to suffer with them, too.

Keep defending the little ones. It will cost you. They might take you.

That’s okay. You’ll be in good company. They also took the babies. They also took Christ.

These attacks on Catholics, Christians, and Pro-Lifers are clearly not over. Christians should be very clear; these are direct attacks on Christians’ right to exercise their faith in the public sphere. As a spirit of abortion rage and vengeance sweeps our nation, Pro-Lifers must cling more closely than ever before to the salvific love of Christ.

We are fighting a spiritual war. We cannot back down in the face of evil that is literally banging on the church doors. Placing our trust in God’s love, we must fight harder than ever to defend the innocent preborn children from being viciously ripped from their mothers’ wombs by abortion.
