HISTORIC: Texas Senate Passes the Texas Abolition Strategy Act

Taking unprecedented steps to defend Life, the Texas Senate passed the Texas Abolition Strategy Act (SB 1647) by Senator Charles Perry (R-Lubbock). Senate Bill 1647 is the BOLDEST Pro-Life measure ever passed by the House or Senate in Texas.

The Texas Abolition Strategy Act is an omnibus Pro-Life Priority Bill which combines three Pro-Life measures into one comphrensive bill. If enacted into law by the State of Texas, the state will 1) immediately ban all abortions committed for discriminatory reasons such as race, gender, or disability, 2) within 2 years, ban abortions after the child’s heartbeat is detectable, and 3) within 4 years, abolish all elective abortions in Texas.

By passing the Texas Abolition Strategy Act, Texas has taken unmatched historic action to defend human Life. Today is a proud day in the history of our great state. Texans should take immense pride in being the first state to take such bold legislative action to protect preborn children and ABOLISH ABORTION.

Texas Right to Life applauds Senator Perry and all 19 Texas Senators who voted to pass this incredible Life-saving bill.

Also passed in today’s historic session were Pro-Life Priority Bills the Heartbeat Act (SB 8) by Senator Bryan Hughes (R-Tyler), and the Preborn NonDiscrimination Act (SB 1173) by Senator Kelly Hancock (R-North Richland Hills). Other Pro-Life bills passed by the Texas Senate today are the Regulating Abortion-Inducting Drugs Act (SB 394) by Senator Eddie Lucio (D-Brownsville), the Trigger Abortion Ban Act (SB 9) by Senator Angela Paxton (R-McKinney), the Every Mother Matters Act (SB 802), by Senator Paxton, and Stop Taxpayer-Funding of Abortion “Logistical Support” Act (SB 650), by Senator Donna Campbell (R-New Braunfels).
