The Chinese woman was eight months pregnant when she was dragged kicking and screaming from her home by government officials, according to a recent news story that exposed but one example of the reality of China’s “one child limit” law. It has led to Chinese government officials forcing Chinese women into abortions. However, China is not the only country forcing the death of unborn children. Every day across the United States, women are being coerced into making the “choice” of ending their babies’ lives.
Stories like this do not seem to cross the radar of most Americans who believe that something like this would never happen in the United States. What many fail to see is that parents, boyfriends and other people close to expectant mothers are forcing women and young girls into abortions they do not want. The fact that women in the United States are being pressured by people they love and want to trust makes the offenses against the unborn even more horrifying than the murderous nature of the Chinese government.
In a recent story from Ohio, a man held his girlfriend at gunpoint and made her drive to an abortion mill to kill her baby. The woman was able to slip a note to the receptionist saying that she was being forced and she did not want to have an abortion. The police were called and the woman’s boyfriend was arrested. The sad fact is that many women all over the country do not get the chance to call for help like the woman in Cincinnati.
However, good news has come out of Austin, Texas, where a 16 year-old has been granted a restraining order against her parents who tried to force her into killing her unborn child. Many may not think that what happened in China happens here, but this teenager says her mother literally dragged her to abortion mills on two separate occasions. Both the expectant teen mother and the baby’s father did not want to kill the baby, though the girl’s parents continued to threaten that they would force her to do it.
The United States does not have a one child limit like China, but the chilling fact remains: what is happening within the U.S is not carried out by government officials, but by many families who “care” for the well-being of their daughters, sisters and mothers.
In April, 2010, the Elliot Institute released Forced Abortion in America: A Special Report, that indicated that 64% of abortions are either unwanted or coerced, meaning the mother did not want to end her baby’s life, but was “counseled” or forced into the abortion. Many pregnant women also never realized the other resources available to them and were not offered alternatives, but rather rushed to make a decision.
To ensure all mothers have every resource available, get involved with your local Pro-Life organization, donate time and money to Pro-Life Pregnancy Resource Centers and adoption agencies and you can help to stop the injustice and end forced abortions in our country. The most important thing you can do is to not be silent any longer. Stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves. It is time the nation opens its eyes to the horrifying circumstances some pregnant mothers go through as they try to save their babies. Government sanctioned abortions are not a reality in the United States for the time being, but how long will we wait before we take a stand and defend the mothers who want to give their babies life, but are being silenced by the very ones who “love” them?
