LUBBOCK, TX — The fight to keep Planned Parenthood from committing abortions in Lubbock has taken on a new level of importance. Pro-Life Lubbockites have confirmed the location of the new abortion business. While Pro-Lifers have been monitoring the former Lubbock Planned Parenthood location for updates about the facility’s status, the new facility will be located at 3716 22nd Place. In fact, Pro-Life activists reported seeing the president of Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas visit the building earlier this week.
Lubbock has been free of the abortion business since 2013. Pro-Life Texans knew the threat of the abortion industry re-establishing a presence in Lubbock was real, and this confirmation of the location legitimizes that threat. The Lubbock City Council failed their constituents last week, deciding to kill the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance. The policy would have prevented Planned Parenthood from committing abortions in the city. Instead, the council ignored the threat and allowed Planned Parenthood to move forward with their plans to reopen.
Despite the city council’s unwillingness to defend preborn children, Pro-Life Lubbockites have not surrendered. Immediately upon hearing the council’s decision, citizens filed a petition with over 5,000 signatures calling on the local government to bring the Sanctuary City for the Unborn ordinance to a public vote. If the city council fails again, citizens will be able to directly vote on becoming a Sanctuary City for the Unborn in an upcoming election.
Starting today, Pro-Life Lubbockites are at the newly-confirmed Planned Parenthood location, raising awareness about the fact that this is not about political grandstanding but an actual life and death threat now tangibly in the community. Texas Right to Life praises the resilience of these Pro-Life advocates and leaders including Senator Charles Perry, West Texas for Life, and Raiders Defending Life, who are determined to do all they can to keep Planned Parenthood’s deadly business out of their community.
