The landmark Texas Heartbeat Act took effect on September 1 and is already saving hundreds of preborn Texans per day — as well as frustrating abortion advocates across the nation. In response to Texas’s life-saving new law, Joe Biden called on Congress to counteract the Texas Heartbeat Act by passing a law enshrining the fictitious “right to abortion” into federal statute. This would ban states from passing Pro-Life laws. (That’s in addition to Biden directing the Department of Justice to sue the state.)
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki stated:
“…the President’s focus is to reiterate our deep commitment to the Constitutional right, of course, established by Roe v. Wade nearly five decades ago and to continue to call for the codification of Roe, something that the President talked about on the campaign trail, the Vice President talked about on the campaign trail. And this highlights even further the need to move forward on that effort.”
This abortion-promoting president is happy to lean on the Supreme Court precedent from nearly 50 years ago that suits his agenda, yet has no problem questioning the court’s legitimacy when that very same institution issues a decision at odds with his personal politics.
As Psaki pointed out, this is not the first time that Biden has called for the “codification of Roe” by an act of Congress. This policy was a feature of his platform on the campaign trail, appealing to abortion supporters who feel threatened by the recent shifts in the Supreme Court’s ideological makeup. The pro-abortion Left now feels betrayed by the same institution upon which they have historically relied to lend legitimacy to the idea that a woman has a “constitutional right” to end her pregnancy through the intentional killing of her preborn child.
Their response: proposing the Women’s Health Protection Act, federal legislation that has been introduced several times in past years and was re-introduced in June. This bill, which Biden is now reported to be “considering” as a response to the Texas Heartbeat Act and which House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has promised to bring to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, would legalize abortion on demand in every state without regard for existing local restrictions.
Clearly, Texas’s unapologetic commitment to protecting our preborn citizens has abortion advocates running scared. All three of President Trump’s appointees to the Supreme Court voted against allowing abortions to continue while the constitutionality of Texas’s law is debated, and now leftists feel forsaken by the court they have long idolized and depended upon.
The tide of this decades-long battle is finally turning as more and more Americans recognize the undeniable humanity of children in the womb, and Democrat leadership in the White House and in Congress are terrified as they watch the tide turn. President Biden is threatened by Texas’s flagrant opposition to his agenda, and he is desperate to quash our efforts before other like-minded states follow our lead.
