Texas asked a federal judge Thursday to immediately block the Biden administration’s directive forcing doctors and hospitals to commit abortions. The state is seeking urgent protection from the Biden administration after the federal government sued Idaho under the same law at the center of Texas’ case, the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA). Biden would withhold Medicare funds from hospitals that do not expand abortion under his new order.
At the same time, the Biden administration denied Texas’ application to extend Medicaid coverage for low-income women up to six months after giving birth. Bipartisan legislation to lengthen postpartum coverage from two to six months passed the Texas Legislature in 2021. Lawmakers suspect the federal government rejected the bid because it excludes abortion.
This blatantly political and partisan move will only have the effect of hurting Texas women and families.
Biden’s actions prove he is not pro-choice but pro-abortion.
Texas will continue to fight the president’s radical abortion agenda and protect mothers and children in our state. Pregnant women can find free help in their communities at TexasPregnancy.org.
