According to Planned Parenthood Federation of America's own annual reports, the abortion giant took in $686 million in the fiscal years of 2006-2008 alone. According to the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and PPFA's own reporting, PPFA spent less in seven years than the amount given it by the federal government in just two years! America's largest abortion provider receives hundreds of millions of dollars in public money, and now many questions have arisen as to how exactly the money is spent.
A report by the GAO shows that $657.1 million of PPFA's expenditures came from government funds in 2002-2009. Rita Diller of The Washington Times reports that PPFA took in $2.3 billion from the Federal government in the years from 2002-2009. If each of these reports is accurate, then PPFA is holding on to a substantial amount of tax-payer dollars, approximately $1.6 billion.
Where is that missing money? Diller asked, “Has Planned Parenthood managed to tuck away megamillions of our tax dollars, seemingly unnoticed? It's time for Planned Parenthood to come clean.” Any non-profit organization that has amassed over $1 billion in assets (PPFA Annual Report 2008) does not need government assistance, and more to the point, that organization should be held to high accountability and transparency standards.
Government money, our tax dollars, is to be used for patient and client services, and is not to be stockpiled or saved to fatten a bank account.
Equally troubling is that such a controversial organization receives any money from the federal government at all. During the year-long debate over the health care reform bill, much attention focused on whether or not the new bill would expand abortion funding. By now, that answer is clear: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act marks the largest increase in abortion funding in the history of the United States. The provisions in the health care reform bill include no enforceable restrictions on the new and expanded revenue streams for abortion.
When Planned Parenthood receives government funds, we are funding the abortion industry coffers. Diller states, “Obviously, every penny Planned Parenthood receives feeds its abortion business in one way or another. Planned Parenthood's abortion business has increased year after year in lock step with its increasing government funding.”
The bottom line is that American taxpayers are in fact funding abortions, with the millions and millions of dollars given to Planned Parenthood by the US government that aids PPFA in its continuing growth.
