Kendall Bailey and her husband Kevin faced a devastating diagnosis almost 10 years ago–Kendall had thyroid cancer and was in need of immediate treatment.
To stop it from spreading, she was scheduled for surgery to remove the cancerous lump in her throat. But the night before her procedure, she made a shocking discovery—she was pregnant.
Working with an amazing team of doctors, Kendall was able to go through with the surgery while keeping her and her baby safe. However, when she woke up, they found out her cancer had spread throughout her body, calling for immediate radiation.

At this point, Kendall and Kevin were faced with a choice: Choose Life for their baby and risk Kendall’s health by delaying her much-needed treatment, or end their child’s life and go through with radiation.
“It wasn’t even an option for us, I feel like it wasn’t even something for me to consider. I felt like…God gave us a baby and it wasn’t my choice to decide whether that baby could live or not,” Kendal told Christine Yeargin on the Speak Out podcast.
Kendall shared that her pregnancy shifted her focus away from her diagnosis, allowing her to pour her energy into creating a loving home for her child. Despite the uncertainty about her cancer, she trusted that God’s plan would unfold perfectly.
At exactly nine months, Kendall gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Presley, who is now nine years old! Just two months later, she underwent 72 hours of radiation—and has been cancer-free ever since!
Looking back, the Baileys are thankful for the support they had around them at one of the hardest points of their lives.
“There are people out there who don’t have that support, and I don’t know what that would have looked like in my life had I had people telling me that it was just a clump of cells, that this baby wouldn’t feel pain, that it was a mistake, that it wouldn’t be a big deal, that it wouldn’t affect my life if I had aborted her. Those are all lies coming from the enemy, so I am so thankful that I had people in my life who were just really supportive and loving on me during that time,” Kendall said.
“If you’re in a phase where you’re pregnant, if you can hear the heartbeat, go in and hear that heartbeat. If you can feel the movement, put your hand on your stomach and let God just speak to you through those moments. I’m telling you, He has an incredible plan for your life, and it doesn’t involve killing one of His children,” she highlighted.
Praise God for Kendall’s bravery, putting her life on the line for her daughter Presley.
