What is the cost of standing for Life? For the CEO of a successful video game development company, voicing his Pro-Life views led to his being ousted from his own company. The Daily Wire reports that John Gibson, former CEO of Tripwire Interactive, faced outrage after tweeting support for the Texas Heartbeat Act.
Gibson tweeted on September 4 after the law went into effect and the United States Supreme Court denied the abortion industry’s last-ditch effort to block the life-saving law. Gibson wrote, “Proud of #USSupremeCourt affirming the Texas law banning abortion for babies with a heartbeat. As an entertainer I don’t get political often. Yet with so many vocal peers on the other side of this issue, I felt it was important to go on the record as a pro-life game developer.”
Cancel culture descended quickly, and by Monday evening Gibson was no longer CEO. A statement from the company claimed that Gibson “stepped down,” which seems highly unlikely without extreme pressure from anti-Lifers.
The statement added, “The comments given by John Gibson are of his own opinion, and do not reflect those of Tripwire Interactive as a company. His comments disregarded the values of our whole team, our partners and much of our broader community. Our leadership team at Tripwire are deeply sorry and are unified in our commitment to take swift action and to foster a more positive environment.”
According to abortion radicals, when a CEO voices Pro-Life support, his comments “disregarded the values” of everyone even remotely associated with the company. Yet, when the head of one of the largest rideshare companies in the country makes blatantly anti-Life comments and donates $1 million to Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business, that is met with media praise.
The ousting of a qualified CEO for a single Pro-Life remark shows how much sway the loud minority of abortion supporters have in our culture. Gibson is not alone in facing alienation for supporting a law that defends the Right to Life of preborn children with a beating heart. The life-saving Texas Heartbeat Act has enraged the anti-Life mob. Across the country, celebrities and people in power have made a point of loudly voicing their support for the killing of the preborn. Courageous Pro-Lifers who have defended the Texas law, including Texas Right to Life, face tremendous pushback.
The abortion industry has a foothold in so much of the mainstream media and popular culture that simply standing for Life can have drastic consequences. As the Texas Heartbeat Act shows, there are many Pro-Lifers who support measures that save lives. The reason for our success in Texas has been focusing on the grassroots where the abortion industry does not hold sway.
