Texas Right to Life is hiring an Advancement and Student Outreach Specialist to work closely with their Education and Development Departments. The Education Department oversees the Dr. Joseph Graham Fellowship for College Pro-Life Leaders, Convention for Life, events for high schoolers, Pro-Life Graduate Student Fellowship for healthcare and law students, and other events and activities. Additionally, the Education Department fulfills speaking engagements when community groups request a Pro-Life speaker for civic meetings, church events, school classes, etc. The Development Department builds meaningful connections with Texas Right to Life donors, ensuring they feel appreciated, informed, and supported every step of the way. The Development Department oversees donor relations by composing thank-you letters, following up on donation issues, making courtesy calls, assisting with donor events, maintaining accurate records, contributing to grant writing efforts, and collaborating with the fundraising team on high-priority donor outreach and silent auction coordination.
OBJECTIVE:
To advance the mission of Texas Right to Life by supporting departmental efforts that spread the Pro-Life message, build meaningful relationships, and engage communities across Texas. Whether through educational programs or donor relations, this role helps inform, motivate, educate, and connect individuals to protect innocent human Life from conception to natural death.
LOCATION:
This job is located in Bellaire, TX (central Houston) for one year, and then the employee may
be eligible to move to another city or region of Texas.
- Applicants must be willing to commute daily to the Bellaire office when not traveling for work.
- Travel 2-3 days per month (not necessarily sequential days), mostly to the employee’s assigned region of Texas.
- This employee position’s region of the state is subject to change based on many factors, and is open to discussion.
SCHEDULE:
- Start date between May and June, 2025
- The general daily schedule is Mon-Fri 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Working events on evenings or weekends will be required periodically through the year, especially during the summer for our student trainings, and for one month before our annual Houston gala (usually September).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the planning and execution of events (including: trainings, outreach programs, donor gatherings, and community activities) by managing logistics, coordination, and follow-up to ensure successful and engaging experiences.
- Mentor and assist Pro-Life students throughout the year with their Pro-Life events and needs.
- Travel 2-3 days per month to visit your assigned region of Texas to speak to Pro-Life student groups and community members, to offer presentations such as Pro-Life communication, dialogue, leadership, conflict resolution, tabling, networking with their community, and more.
- Promote all Education programs by visiting and contacting universities, high schools, churches, civic clubs, political clubs, etc.
- Prepare materials and man informational tables at events attended by Texas Right to Life.
- Monitor progress of our scholarship students in your assigned region, review their reports, and determine if they have earned their scholarship awards.
- Give basic Pro-Life bioethics presentations to community groups, schools, etc. from the Texas Right to Life curriculum.
- Compose and personalize handwritten or typed thank-you notes to acknowledge and appreciate donor contributions promptly and sincerely.
- Contact donors via phone or email to address declined credit card transactions or payment issues with empathy, discretion, and professionalism.
- Make non-solicitation courtesy calls to express gratitude, provide organizational updates, and foster stronger relationships with supporters.
- Accurately record all donor interactions and updates in the Donor Management System to maintain reliable and up-to-date records.
- Support the development team in researching funding opportunities and drafting compelling grant proposals and reports for foundations and other institutional donors.
- Work closely with the fundraising and development team to identify high-priority donors, coordinate silent auction contributions and logistics, and streamline outreach processes.

COMMITMENT:
Individuals must be committed to Christian Holiness and to the Pro-Life philosophy of Texas Right to Life, and desire to educate others on Pro-Life issues including but not limited to: abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, and adoption. Must be willing to commit to working for a minimum of two years, but ideally seeking a long-term career.
TRAINING & PREPARATION:
Training will be provided upon hire to mentor students, interact with donors, practice public speaking skills, present bioethics topics, present leadership classes, and other job responsibilities. Training will be provided through written materials, video and verbal presentations, shadowing directors during their presentations, and personal instruction from supervisors. Continuous bioethics learning opportunities will be provided. Training will take place in the office and while shadowing at events in Houston and around the state.
EVALUATION:
A newly hired employee will be formally evaluated after 30 days and 60 days of employment. Management will also evaluate all employees on an annual basis.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- The Advancement and Student Outreach Specialist position is a starting-level position, full time.
- Pay is $17 per hour, with several opportunities for overtime (after 40 hrs) paid at time and a half.
- Monetary visit incentives will be paid for mentor visits each semester.
- We will have annual reviews to discuss progress, goals, and eligibility for annual raises or bonuses.
