In a 53-47 vote today, the Senate confirmed Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, and Mitt Romney were the only Republicans to join the Democrats in voting to confirm Jackson.
During her Senate confirmation hearings, Jackson voiced her support for the killing of children through abortion as set in Roe v. Wade as “the settled law of the Supreme Court.” When asked when she believed human Life begins, Jackson refused to answer, simply responding, “I don’t know.”
Abortion groups across the country celebrated Jackson’s confirmation. Planned Parenthood Action Fund tweeted, “From Judge Jackson to Justice Jackson. History has been made! Her voice on the Court will be heard for generations to come.”
Biden’s nominee to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer, Ketanji Brown Jackson will join the nation’s highest court at the end of the current term, either late June or July. Jackson’s replacement of Breyer is not expected to alter the ideological makeup of the court, as both were Democratic appointees and left-leaning justices.
Jackson will not join the court until after a decision has been reached in Dobbs v. Jackson Whole Women’s Health, a case that could weaken or overturn Roe.
