Vice President J.D. Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance are celebrating the birth of their fourth child, a baby boy named Alec Neel Vance.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning. Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother,” Vice President J.D. Vance and his wife wrote Sunday.
The newest member of the Vance family joins siblings Ewan, 9, Vivek, 6, and Mirabel, 4.
The birth has drawn national attention not only because Alec is the son of the vice president, but also because large families have become increasingly uncommon in America. According to federal data, the nation’s fertility rate has fallen to historic lows, with women averaging fewer children than previous generations.
Vice President Vance has frequently spoken about the importance of supporting families and welcoming children. During the 2025 March for Life, he declared, “I want more babies in the United States of America.”
His growing family reflects that commitment.
For many Americans, they cannot understand the gift that a larger family can hold. This is not widely seen or a part of our culture. Plus, the media plays a role in making larger families seem “too chaotic” or “burdensome.”
However, scripture repeatedly describes children as blessings from God.
“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate” – Psalm 127:3-5.

From the beginning of creation, God established the family and called humanity to welcome new life. Genesis records that after creating man and woman in His image, “God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it.’”
With women in the United States averaging just 1.64 children in 2022, our nation is no longer multiplying itself. In many cases, we’re not even having enough children to replace mom and dad. America’s declining birth rate is a sobering reminder that children are increasingly seen as optional rather than the blessings they truly are.

The celebration surrounding Alec’s birth highlights a truth that the Pro-Life movement has long championed, and the world needs to hear: every child has inherent value and dignity. A child’s worth does not depend on race, status, wealth, ability, or the circumstances of his or her conception. Every human life is worthy of protection because every person is made in the image of God.
Alec Vance’s arrival is also historically significant. He is the first child born to a sitting vice president in more than 150 years. Historians note that the last vice presidential child born during a vice president’s time in office was Schuyler Colfax III in 1870.
Every child deserves to be welcomed with the same joy and celebration surrounding Alec’s arrival. A baby’s value should never depend on his last name, family status, or whether his birth makes national headlines.
Every life is a gift from God, worthy of love, protection, and celebration. Our nation flourishes when we embrace children as blessings and build a culture where every mother is supported and every baby is welcomed.
