Newborn Found In Dumpster After Being Born In A Taco Truck

This past Sunday in Houston, just before 2:00 p.m., a heartbreaking scene unfolded behind an apartment complex when EMS rescued a newborn boy from a dumpster.

According to the complex manager, a taco truck employee gave birth inside the nearby vehicle. She then discarded the baby in the dumpster before returning to clean the truck. These troubling details are still under investigation by the police.

Police told ABC13 that someone who happened to be walking past the dumpster midday Sunday heard the cry of a baby. After calling for help, EMS arrived and discovered the newborn boy inside a bag in the dumpster, alive and alert.

In a video captured by a witness, EMS is seen lifting the little boy from a pile of trash and wrapping him in a blanket. His hair was still wet, his umbilical cord fresh, and his skin still looked pink and pruned.

The apartment manager said this truck had only been parked there for three months.

On Tuesday afternoon, investigators from the Houston Police Department focused their attention on the food truck where the baby was supposedly born. They took pictures inside and spoke to multiple people who witnesses say are employees and owners.

Fortunately, the baby boy was rushed to the hospital, where he was found to be in good health and is now under the care of Child Protective Services. Authorities are still working to identify who abandoned him.

In the past week alone, news reports have revealed that four infants were abandoned in or near dumpsters in Fort Worth, Houston, and Lubbock. Tragically, one of these cases resulted in the death of the child. Texas Right to Life and Pro-Life activists are working to draw attention to the state’s “Baby Moses Law,” which was created to prevent dangerous abandonments like these.

“Those are tragic stories, and they are stories that don’t need to happen. If a citizen has a newborn that is 60 days or younger, they are able to drop them off at a fire station or a hospital and those individuals will not ask them any information about themselves. The most information they are permitted to ask them about is maybe the baby’s medical history to make sure the baby is getting the best medical care,” said Martee Boose with the Houston Fire Department.

Stories like this tug at our hearts and remind us to pray fervently for Texas and the vulnerable children in need of loving homes. We praise God for the pedestrian whose quick call saved this precious newborn boy! Let’s unite in prayer today, asking for this little one to be blessed with a loving home.
