The leadership at the Food and Drug Administration just changed in a major way, and many Pro-Life Americans are concerned about what comes next for unborn children and pregnant women.

FDA Commissioner Marty Makary resigned Tuesday after months of pressure from Pro-Life leaders who wanted stronger action against abortion pills.

Makary led the FDA for just over a year. During his time in office, the agency not only neglected to restore stronger restrictions on the abortion pill mifepristone, but it also approved a new drug that kills preborn babies. Pro-Life Americans had hoped the Trump administration would take bold action to stop abortion pills from being mailed across the country.

Instead, Makary’s FDA kept the following Biden and Obama-era policies in place:

  • Abortion pills are allowed to be taken up to 10 weeks in pregnancy instead of 7.
  • Abortionists can send pills in the mail, instead of requiring an in-person appointment.
  • Abortion pill injuries only have to be reported by doctors and hospitals if the woman dies.

Now, the man temporarily taking over is even more alarming.

New Acting FDA Commissioner Once Represented Planned Parenthood

Commissioner Kyle Diamantas previously worked as an attorney for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion business.

Court records show Diamantas represented Planned Parenthood of Greater Orlando in a Florida Supreme Court case in 2017.

That history matters because the FDA controls the rules surrounding abortion pills.

Chemical abortions involve two drugs. The first drug, mifepristone, kills the baby by starving him or her to death. The second drug, misoprostol, causes the woman to deliver the deceased child.

These pills are often mailed directly to homes and dorm rooms, even in Texas.

Abortion Pills Continue to Spread Across America

For years, Pro-Life Americans have warned about the dangers of mail-order abortion pills.

By 10 weeks in pregnancy, the baby has her own unique DNA; her heart starts beating; her eyes, legs, and hands begin to develop; she has detectable brain waves; and every major organ system is in place.

Plus, abortion pills are dangerous for pregnant women. Without an in-person appointment, doctors cannot tell if the mother has an ectopic pregnancy or other conditions that could be life-threatening if untreated. A recent study found that over 1 in 10 women who attempt a chemical abortion face severe medical complications—this is 22 times more harmful than the FDA currently reports. Even then, this number may not capture the full damage.

States with strong Pro-Life laws continue to struggle, too, as abortion activists ship the drugs across state lines.

President Donald Trump has the authority to direct the FDA to restore stronger safeguards. The agency could require in-person doctor visits, stop mail-order abortions, or even revoke approval of the abortion pill altogether.

Those changes would make it harder for abortion businesses and activists to flood the country with these deadly drugs.

Urge President Trump to Stop Abortion Pills!

America Must Do More to Save Babies

President Trump must appoint someone strongly Pro-Life to lead the FDA.

Texas Right to Life continues to call on President Trump, the FDA, the Department of Justice, and US Congress to stand up against these deadly drugs killing countless babies even in Pro-Life states.

Abortion pills have become the biggest threat to unborn children in America and we must not allow our leaders to become complacent.

Washington can and should take immediate action to completely end the legalized killing of babies in the womb.
