JD Vance Is Right: No One’s “Liberty” Should Justify Killing a Baby

Vice President JD Vance isn’t afraid to say what so many politicians tiptoe around. When asked whether a person’s “right to liberty” outweighs a baby’s Right to Life, he said plainly:

“Do I think someone’s right to liberty trumps someone’s Right to Life? No, I do not.”

That’s the kind of moral clarity America needs right now — an idea that the Trump administration should double down on.

Vance, speaking at a Turning Point USA event in memory of Charlie Kirk, reminded Americans of what happens to societies that normalize child sacrifice.

“Whenever a society decides to discard innocent babies, they also don’t treat their women very well. And whenever a society mistreats its women, very often the babies come right after that. There is a reason why Christian civilization ended the practice of child sacrifice all over the world, and it’s one of the great accomplishments of Christian civilization.”

That’s the truth. For centuries, societies shaped by Christian principles have stood for protecting women and their children, not pitting them against each other. Yet today, our government allows abortion pills to be mailed straight into homes, ending the lives of countless unborn babies and putting women at risk.

If our leaders truly believe, as JD Vance said, that protecting preborn babies is one of the greatest moral achievements of Christian civilization, then the Trump administration should push as aggressively as possible to save children from abortion.

Answering a question from a Pro-Life student about his position on abortion, Vance started by listing political limitations instead of saying what the White House plans to do to stop this injustice.

President Trump made amazing Pro-Life victories in his first term, including by nominating three Supreme Court justices who were key to overturning Roe v. Wade. However, during the 2024 campaign, Trump announced that his administration wouldn’t set national limits on abortion, even late-term protections that most Americans support. Instead, he stated, he believes abortion should only be decided by state lawmakers.

State action is good but not enough. JD Vance is right: America should protect every unborn life.

Thankfully, the Trump administration already has a powerful tool in their hands. They can stop mail-order abortions nationwide by enforcing the Comstock Act, a long-standing federal law that already makes it illegal to mail abortion drugs. No new legislation is needed, only the courage to act.

Being “prudent” should never mean being passive. If President Trump and Vice President Vance believe abortion ends an innocent life, then they must take action to stop it, from steps like enforcing the Comstock Act to calling on Congress for federal protections for the unborn.

America cannot claim to value Life while allowing abortion. Words matter — but action saves babies.
