Trump Pardons 23 Imprisoned Pro-Life Advocates

President Trump signed an executive order pardoning the 23 Pro-Life advocates imprisoned by the Biden administration.

“This is a great honor to sign this,” Trump said.

Biden’s Department of Justice prosecuted these advocates under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. What should have been treated, at most, as minor trespassing incidents by local police was instead escalated to the federal government. This misuse of the law has resulted in Pro-Lifers facing disproportionately harsh sentences, leaving them in prison for two to five years.

Lauren Handy, a 30-year-old advocate, was sentenced to four years and nine months for organizing a Pro-Life protest in Washington, D.C. Handy played a key role in uncovering the “DC Five”—a box containing the remains of five aborted babies, some of whom were late-term, which violates federal law. These precious babies’ remains were being discarded as trash. “I reject the use of fear and shame from outside and inside forces as a means to hold us back from loving preborn people as our equals,” she wrote on X.

Jean Marshall, a 74-year-old Pro-Life nurse, was sentenced to two years for participating in a protest in Washington, D.C. “I’m just there to save the child,” she told Catholic News Agency, “it is the right thing to do at the right time.”

Bevelyn Beatty Williams, a 33-year-old mom to a 2-year-old daughter, was sentenced to three years in federal prison. “This is devastating news. Not only is this bond extensive for the accused crime, but she made it very clear in the courtroom that she was going to make an example out of me,” read a statement from Williams’ fundraising page.

Luckily, Bevelyn reunited with her husband and precious daughter last night, praising Jesus for his goodness.

Thank God for this incredible victory! While this is an important milestone, the work is far from over. It’s crucial that we take a moment to celebrate this win and stay steadfast in the fight for Life. We urge President Trump to continue prioritizing the Pro-Life cause by:

  • Defunding overseas abortions;
  • Restoring regulations on abortion pills;
  • Defunding Planned Parenthood; and
  • Reversing Biden’s expansive abortion policies.

If President Trump maintains his commitment to preborn babies, we could witness countless children saved for generations to come.

Background

The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act was first signed into law by Bill Clinton in 1994. Originally, the policy was meant to prohibit “violent, threatening, damaging and obstructive conduct” intended at those who work and who enter abortion clinics, pregnancy centers, and churches, according to the Department of Justice.

Despite the prosecution of Pro-Life activists, the vast majority of attacks on Pro-Life pregnancy centers, organizations, and churches—over 100 incidents in the past four years—remain unsolved, as reported by Fox News. Since the FACE Act was instituted in 1994, 97% of the prosecutions were against Pro-Life Americans.

Texas Congressman Chip Roy took a stand against this, filing legislation to repeal the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. In regards to Biden’s DOJ, Roy highlighted, “The FACE Act was one of the primary weapons of abuse — being used to politically target, arrest, and jail Pro-Life Americans for speaking out and standing up for Life.”

Repealing the FACE Act would protect Pro-Life advocates from being unfairly targeted by the federal government. The law, originally intended to safeguard access to both abortion clinics and Pro-Life pregnancy centers and churches, has been misapplied and inconsistently enforced. Given this misuse, the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act should be repealed to restore fairness and prevent further injustice.
