Just one year ago, the United States Supreme Court released the country from the lethal shackles of Roe v. Wade with their decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. This ruling returned the issue of abortion to the states and elected officials, enabling them to once again pass laws that protect preborn life at any stage of development. Texas was prepared for this moment — our pre-Roe law took effect once again, immediately stopping the abortion industry and protecting all preborn children from the moment of fertilization. But abortion fanatics would not give up so easily.
Already, anti-Life groups have been plotting to lawlessly mail deadly abortion pills into Texas. But another inventive, dangerous method is in the operation of offshore abortion clinic ships.
AbortOffshore already has a ship in the Gulf of Mexico that has performed nearly 1200 abortions to women in life-protecting Gulf states. Headquartered in New York City, AbortOffshore commits abortions up to 20 weeks’ gestation. This ship operates 12 miles off the coast, so subject only to federal law and law enforcement.
Another abortion ship that is still fundraising is called “PRROWESS” (Protecting Reproductive Rights of Women Endangered by State Statutes). When southern states began protecting Life, founder Meg Autry decided to implement her lethal plot. Last year, Autry began raising funds and according to their website, it appears Autry is still in the process of raising sufficient funds to begin her disturbing undertaking, but has hinted that her ship is expected to begin functioning this summer.
The idea of an abortion ship is not new. Dutch abortionist Rebecca Gomperts founded Women on Waves in 1999 to provide abortions to women in Europe. Gomperts is also the founder of Aid Access, a website that sends abortion pills into the United States, subverting state laws without regard to women’s safety.
Plots like this demonstrate that the abortion lobby is a culture of death that will stop at no end to take the lives of innocent children. Now is NOT the time for the Pro-Life movement to go home. Women are in great need of pregnancy and maternal resources, which Pro-Lifers must make available through critical pregnancy resource centers, so that women have the support they need to choose Life and reject the pressure from the abortion mob.
Texas’ current Pro-Life laws are insufficient to stop these innovative methods of ending the lives of preborn children. Unfortunately, when the Texas Legislature met earlier this year, they neglected preborn children by failing to pass any Pro-Life Priorities ensuring our strong Pro-Life laws are fully enforced and stopping illegal abortion pills coming into our state.
Texas laws are currently saving thousands of preborn lives from the abortion industry. But the fight is not over — anti-Life activists plot to continue committing abortions in Texas through bizarre means such as a new abortion ship. If we truly want to protect vulnerable preborn Texans, we cannot step down! We must fully enforce our Pro-Life laws and stop deadly illegal abortion drugs from coming into our state.
