When someone makes an outlandish claim on a podcast, you’d expect at least some pushback from the hosts. But that didn’t happen here. When a woman said she was stockpiling Plan B for her six-year-old daughter, not a single person on the panel challenged it.

A recent episode of 1A, titled “The State of Abortion Access in 2026,” explored how the country has changed since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. The podcast promised a panel discussion with experts on abortion, legal implications, and the “dangers of Pro-Life laws” on families.

To start the show, a caller from Alabama described the fear and uncertainty she faces raising children in a state with strong protections for babies in the womb. She shared that she urged her husband to undergo a vasectomy, explaining that pregnancy in her state is “too dangerous.” Because of Pro-Life laws, the family has considered leaving Alabama entirely and plans to encourage their children to attend college elsewhere.

Then, a text message read on the show captured just how deep this anxiety has become:

“My daughter is six. I’ve stockpiled Plan B medications for her just in case. Will they be expired by the time she needs them? Probably. But at least she will have something.”

The idea that a parent feels compelled to prepare abortion-related drugs for a child not yet in adolescence reflects a culture shaped by fear, misunderstanding, and worst-case scenarios. Families are being led to believe their daughters might one day face crisis situations alone—with killing their baby as their only backup plan.

Panelists had no commentary for this scared mother. A representative from Guttmacher Institute pivoted to emphasize that “medication abortion is well-studied” and used safely in over 100 countries.

“First, let me start that medication abortion is well-studied, incredibly safe, and used in at least 100 countries,” Kelly Baden said.

However, an analysis of insurance claim data revealed that at least 1 in 10 women required emergency room care within 45 days of taking abortion pills, with complications including infections, sepsis, and uncontrolled hemorrhaging. This research from the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) also concluded that, beyond physical risks, women have also reported severe emotional trauma, including post-traumatic stress, suicidal thoughts, and lifelong grief.

What often goes overlooked in these conversations is the wide range of support available to women facing unplanned pregnancies. Across the country, pregnancy resource centers offer counseling, free medical services, baby supplies, and ongoing care for families in need. Women are not without options; They are not alone. There are compassionate, life-affirming resources ready to walk with them every step of the way, ensuring both mother and child are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

The episode ultimately revealed a troubling shift: Abortion is increasingly happening behind closed doors, making it easier than ever to end the life of a preborn child. What is being framed as “access” is, in reality, the normalization of taking a baby’s life. Killing a child in the womb should never be an acceptable option. The story of a mother stockpiling pills for her six-year-old daughter is a sobering sign of where this culture is heading—not toward protection or dignity, but toward preparing the next generation to see abortion as a routine and necessary solution.

This episode of 1A makes it clear that even years after Roe was overturned, the stakes have only grown higher. The debate is no longer just about laws or “access”—it is about whether our society will recognize and defend the humanity of preborn children, or continue down a path where ending their lives is made easier, quieter, and increasingly unquestioned.
