Lily Allen Sings About Forgetting the Number of Abortions She Has Had

Pop singer Lily Allen is no stranger to controversy. But her most recent comments took a disturbing turn, casually singing about multiple abortions to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s My Way—and laughing as she did it.

“Abortions I’ve had a few… but then again… I can’t remember exactly how many,” Allen sang while giggling, admitting she thinks she’s had four or five abortions.

In a world where abortion is often framed as a “difficult but necessary” decision—something to be “safe, legal, and rare”—Allen’s comments are a chilling glimpse into a culture that not only accepts abortion, but celebrates it.

In a conversation with fellow media personality Miquita Oliver, both women shared how many abortions they’ve had. Miquita responded with excitement: “I’ve had about five too! Lily I’ve never—I’m so happy I can say that and you can say it and no one came to shoot us down, no judgment. We’ve had about the same amount of abortions.”

Their laughter was the sound of a culture so desensitized to violence that it jokes about the intentional ending of innocent babies’ lives—lives that will never have the chance to laugh, cry, or sing a single note.

At one point, Allen described a past experience where her ex paid for her abortion. “I remember once getting pregnant and the man paying for my abortion, and me thinking it was so romantic!” Miquita agreed, calling it romantic—equating financial aid for abortion with affection and support.

But Allen offered a sobering truth: “No I don’t think it’s generous or romantic. Think about that investment, like how much is it, 500 quid? Kids are a lot more expensive.”

She’s right. Kids are more expensive—because they are more valuable. What’s missing from this conversation is any recognition of the value of the children lost. However, Allen has made it clear in past statements that abortion isn’t about tragic situations or lives lost, but for convenience.

In 2016, Lily posted publicly, “Most people I know, myself included, just didn’t want to have a f***ing baby and that is reason enough. We don’t have to justify it.” She dismissed stories of tragic or extreme cases as harmful to the abortion movement, saying they “play into the hands of the baddies.”

This is the core of the problem. A movement that began by insisting abortion should be “rare” now cheers it as a casual, everyday decision. A movement that claimed to stand for women’s empowerment now enables a culture that uses women and discards children.

Although abortion may be seen as a temporary relief, she could likely suffer long-term side effects that far outweigh that short-term fix. A 2018 study found that women who have had an abortion face an alarming 81% higher risk for mental health problems compared to those who have not.

The abortion industry and its advocates have gone from defending abortion as a tragic necessity to promoting it as a lifestyle—something to brag about, laugh about, and sing about. But there’s nothing funny about ending a life.

As Pro-Lifers, we mourn the children lost in stories like these. We grieve for the women who are sold the lie that abortion is their only option—or worse, that it’s empowering. And we continue fighting for a culture that honors Life, supports mothers, and refuses to laugh in the face of death.

If you or someone you know has had an abortion, hope and healing are possible. Men and women can visit Rachel’s Vineyard for post-abortive retreats, books, and other resources.

Join us in prayer for Lily Allen, that God will inspire her heart and lead her to repentance and healing.
