ProPublica has once again twisted a heartbreaking medical story to promote its long-standing pro-abortion agenda.
Their latest anti-Life article misrepresents the tragic complications suffered by a Texas woman, Tierra Walker, using her pain as a political tool to argue for expanding abortion on demand. This is a pattern: ProPublica repeatedly misleads the public about Texas Pro-Life laws, sowing confusion among doctors and women while weaponizing a family’s grief for political gain.
The truth matters. Texas law allows physicians to intervene when a mother faces an imminent threat to her life. In fact, Texas law has never prohibited a physician from intervening when a mother’s life is at risk. Both the Texas Medical Board and the Supreme Court of Texas had clearly stated that a woman did not need to be at death’s door for treatment to be legal. The statute plainly stated that treatment is allowed where there exists “a life-threatening physical condition aggravated by, caused by, or arising from a pregnancy that, as certified by a physician, places the woman in danger of death or a serious risk of substantial impairment of a major bodily function unless an abortion is performed.”
The law also explicitly clarifies that miscarriage management and treatment for ectopic pregnancies are not considered abortions. No physician should ever withhold medically necessary care for fear of prosecution.

Still, media outlets like ProPublica continue to spread misinformation, contributing to harmful hesitation among hospital attorneys and medical staff. The Texas Legislature recognized this and passed the Life of the Mother Act, Senate Bill 31, by Senator Bryan Hughes in 2025. This new law reiterates the medical emergency language, further clarifies the standard of care, and requires continued education for physicians and hospital legal teams so that no woman is denied life-saving care.
It is disgusting to see the media exploit women’s suffering to push abortion. Sadly, their narrative is not surprising, especially as the cause of Life advances in the Lone Star State. On December 4, the Woman and Child Protection Act, House Bill 7 by Representative Leach and sponsored by Senator Hughes, will take effect. This law is projected to save as many as 19,000 preborn Texas babies each year by stopping illegal shipments of dangerous abortion drugs into Texas. The WCPA aims to safeguard both preborn babies and their vulnerable mothers. One in ten women who take these drugs experiences severe complications, and some even die, as seen in the tragic story of Amber Thurman.
Texas’ Pro-Life laws protect both women and their preborn children. Texans deserve the truth, not politically-motivated fearmongering from ProPublica.
