In their own words: Abortionists describe dismemberment abortion

Recent undercover footage released by the Center for Medical Progress shows abortionists giving frank descriptions of dismemberment abortions.  Their callous and dehumanizing descriptions reveal how violent and dangerous the procedure is—not just for the baby killed, but also for the mother.  YouTube removed the video, but the footage can still be accessed here.

Pro-Life legislators in Texas succeeded in passing the Dismemberment Abortion Ban Amendment, which prohibits this gruesome abortion procedure that tears a living child limb from limb while his or her heart is still beating.  Abortion activists immediately started preparing a lawsuit against the commonsense and humane legislation banning dismemberment abortions.  These activists claim that banning dismemberment abortions will put women at risk because dismemberment is the “safest” procedure available.  Clearly the procedure is not safe for the baby who is subjected to the unimaginable violence of being ripped apart by blunt force.  What do abortionists own words tell us about dismemberment abortion?

Here are a few comments from abortionists and abortion activists caught in CMP’s undercover footage:

The fetus is a tough little object, and taking it apart, I mean, taking it apart on Day One is very difficult. . .   You go in there, and you go, “Am I getting the uterus or the fetus?  Oh, good, fetus. [Robinson makes a stabbing sound effect] What have I got?  Nothing.  Let’s try again.

Unsurprisingly, ripping apart a living human being in the delicate tissue of the uterus poses serious risks of uterine tears, hemorrhaging, and other potentially life-threatening complications.  Like abortionist DeShawn Taylor, who described needing to work out in order to have the strength to  rip apart preborn babies, Robinson reveals just how much force is needed to dismember a living child.  Hearing Robinson and Taylor’s descriptions of such violence reveals the truth of an anonymous abortionist’s shocking claim:  There are only two kinds of doctors who have never perforated a uterus, those that lie and those who don’t do abortions.

  • Talcott Camp, deputy director of the ACLU’s Reproductive Health Freedom Project:

I’m like — Oh my God!  I get it!  When the skull is broken, that’s really sharp!  I get it!  I understand why people are talking about getting that skull out, that calvarium.

As in the previous quote, Camp demonstrates how easily tearing or scarring the delicate uterine tissue in such a violent procedure is.  Camp’s comment also points to another serious danger to women: pieces of the baby left in the mother’s uterus after the abortion.  Women like Cree Erwin-Sheppard have died from the lethal effects of leaving pieces of the baby’s body in his or her mother.  Cree also suffered a uterine tear.  Although abortionists attempt to reconstruct the mangled body of the baby after he or she has been killed to ensure that body parts are not left behind, a shattered skull is difficult to fully reconstruct for that purpose.

  • Deborah Nucatola, the senior director of medical services for Planned Parenthood:

You know, sometimes she’ll tell me she wants brain, and we’ll, you know, leave the calvarium [skull]in till last, and then try to basically take it, or actually, you know, catch everything and keep it separate from the rest of the tissue so it doesn’t get lost.

Nucatola’s comments show how readily abortionists will alter abortion procedures (a federal crime) in order to harvest saleable body parts from the preborn baby.  Such profit-driven motives pose grave risk to the mother.  Nucatola’s grisly description also shows how dismemberment abortion goes hand-in-hand with the illegal trafficking of baby body parts for profit in Texas.  Now that abortionists can no longer put Texas women’s lives at risk by altering abortions to selectively dismember babies and sell their organs, the Dismemberment Abortion Ban will help bring an end to the sale of baby body parts in our state.

Although listening to the abortionists’ words is unpleasant and uncomfortable, we must not shy away from quoting them.  Abortion activists insist that dismemberment abortion is “safe,” but the descriptions from the abortionists actually committing dismemberment abortions show they are incredibly violent, painfully lethal for the preborn, and dangerous for women.  Texas is the eighth state to ban dismemberment abortions.  We hope other states will soon join us.
