Pro-Lifers – and the women and children they stand for – have been kicked to the curb by an unethical legislature once again. Many conservatives were resistant to the passage of Obamacare (aka the Affordable Care Act, which is a misnomer). From its mandate that Americans pay for things they don’t want (reminiscent of health systems in the UK and Canada), to the “death panels” poised to make life-or-death decisions on behalf of powerless patients, the legislation has been highly contentions from its inception.
What is most disturbing about the program, however, is the way its supporters’ readiness to sneakily lie abortion into state insurance exchanges. Despite the fact that the president and Democrat leaders explicitly promised that federal tax funding would not be used to pay for abortions under the state exchanges (leaving the possibility of state funding up to individual state legislatures), federal funding has been funneled into abortions from the get-go.
Pro-Life advocates are outraged by a recent report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), a nonpartisan watchdog organization that demands transparency from our legislature. The GAO worked hard to uncover that an unconscionable amount of federal funding has been footing abortion costs while leaders have been simultaneously assuring American taxpayers that this was not the case.
Speaker of the House, John Boehner, says that conservative lawmakers tried on multiple occasions to obtain these records but the Obama Administration consistently denied those requests for transparency. Casey Mattox of Alliance Defending Freedom calls the abortion funding, “corporate welfare for the administration’s abortion industry cronies:”
…Obamacare was designed to force Americans to pay for abortions. Federal law protects Americans from paying for others’ abortions, but Obamacare architects built a purposely deceptive accounting scheme into the massive law that makes people in all 50 states fund abortion. We were told that we had to pass the bill to find out what was in it. Now we know one other thing that’s in it: corporate welfare for the administration’s abortion industry cronies. Instead of deceiving the American people, the administration needs to follow federal law and deliver on the transparency we were promised.
