This is the first in a series of spotlights that Texas Right to Life will be publishing highlighting candidates who will be new, Pro-Life members of the Texas Legislature following their success in the upcoming November elections.
Jared Patterson is the Republican nominee for Texas House of Representatives District 106, located north of the DFW metroplex in Northeast Denton County. He grew up just 15 minutes north of HD 106, has lived in Frisco since 2015 with his family, and has lived in North Texas almost his entire life.
Proud husband to Leslie and father to Reagan, Austin, and McKinley, Mr. Patterson has been an outspoken conservative for many years. In his position as city councilor for Sachse, TX, he implemented zero-based budgeting for the city and spearheaded the instatement of prayer and the pledges of allegiance to open all city board meetings.
Jared Patterson decided to run for State Representative when Representative Pat Fallon (R-Frisco) announced he would be challenging incumbent Craig Estes (R-Wichita Falls) for Senate District 30. When Jared was asked to run by many in his community, he humbly agreed. Having triumphed over establishment favorite Clint Bedsole in the March 6 primary by more than 1,000 votes, Jared faces pro-abortion, anti-gun Democrat Ramona Thompson in the November elections. Jared has succeeded despite the best efforts of the Austin-based Associated Republicans of Texas and pro-Joe Straus Texas House Leadership Fund, establishment groups who pumped over $117,000 (more than 60% of his donations) into Bedsole’s failed campaign.
One of many huge wins for the Pro-Life movement this past primary in the Texas Legislature, Patterson’s victory is wonderful news for tiny Texans. He was endorsed by US Senator Ted Cruz, as well as House Freedom Caucus members Rep. Briscoe Cain (R-Deer Park), Pro-Life Whip Rep. Matt Rinaldi (R-Irving), Rep. Jonathan Stickland (R-Bedford), and Rep. Matt Krause (R-Ft. Worth). Membership in the Freedom Caucus is by invitation only, and Patterson is a top contender for membership at the start of the next session in January 2019.
Governor Greg Abbott may have beaten “Abortion Queen” Wendy Davis in HD 106 by more than 30% in 2014, but complacency is not justified. Democrats, emboldened by the myth of a “blue wave,” are running candidates in districts they never before would have considered, including HD 106. Jared Patterson needs tremendous support to continue Representative Fallon’s legacy of being a strong voice for Life from HD 106. A wide margin of victory will send Jared a mandate to be vocal advocate for Life in the Capitol next year.
