Halle Bailey, the lead actress in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid, is opening up about how becoming a mom changed her life, and her answer is refreshing.

The 26-year-old actress and singer says welcoming her son Halo has made her life better in more ways than one.

During a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, Bailey shared how motherhood has affected her personally and creatively.

“It changes you so much because I feel like I feel things so much deeper now,” Bailey said. “It’s a great recipe for creating and writing because you have so much more to talk about and a deeper sense of emotions.” She added, “I’ve never felt any love like this. It’s crazy.”

That’s not exactly the message our culture likes to push.

Women are constantly told that having children will slow them down, derail their dreams, or make it impossible to have a successful career. But Halle says the opposite happened.

Motherhood didn’t take away from her life. It added to it.

Bailey talked more about her son while attending the Peabody Awards in May. She called 2-year-old Halo her “biggest blessing” and shared what kind of person she hopes he grows up to be.

“I guess I’m just trying to raise someone who’s loving, who’s kind, who is aware, who’s intuitive,” she said. “And he’s all of those things.”

“I’m just hoping I’m doing my best,” she added.

When Bailey first announced Halo’s birth, she shared how much he already meant to her.

“Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son,” she wrote. “Welcome to the world my halo.”

Her comments are encouraging for women who may be wondering if motherhood and their goals can coexist.

Spend five minutes online and you’ll find countless Reddit threads, X posts, and chat forums filled with women asking the same question:

Can I still chase my dreams if I become a mom?

Some are pregnant and scared. Others worry they’ll have to choose between building a career and raising a family.

That’s why stories like Bailey’s matter.

One of the most recognizable young stars in the world is saying something many moms already know: having a child didn’t ruin her future. It gave her a deeper purpose, more inspiration, and a kind of love she had never experienced before.

When celebrities openly celebrate parenthood instead of treating it like a burden, people notice.

And for women who are afraid that motherhood will hold them back, Halle’s story offers a hopeful reminder:

Sometimes the things we’re told will limit us end up becoming our greatest blessings.
