The Hyde Amendment has been hailed as the most effective measure to limit abortion ever passed by Congress.
Now, Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives have repealed the life-saving Hyde Amendment, purposely excluding Hyde from the 2021 Covid relief package. Despite attempts by Pro-Life Republicans, and even some Democrats, in the U.S. Senate to reinstate Hyde Amendment protections, the Covid relief package still does not contain protections against taxpayer funding of abortion. The bill now returns to the U.S. House of Representatives for a final vote.
Your action is needed now. Tell your representative to DEFEND THE HYDE AMENDMENT and reinstate these life-saving provisions in the Covid relief funding to stop federal taxpayer dollars from funding legal murder through abortion.
The Hyde Amendment, originally passed in 1976, blocks federal funding for abortions. Under the Hyde Amendment federal tax dollars cannot be used to provide abortions for women using government healthcare programs such as Medicaid.
Since the Hyde Amendment took effect, estimates have shown that over two million lives have been spared from abortion due to Hyde restrictions.
All of that ends if Congress excludes the Hyde Amendment from bills this year. In 2020 Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) ripped the Hyde Amendment, saying “(t)his is the last year” that Hyde restrictions would limit abortions.
As chairwoman of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee Rep. DeLauro promised to repeal the Hyde Amendment restrictions on federal funding for abortion. Rep. DeLauro does not hide her disdain for Pro-Life measures, even calling the life-saving Hyde Amendment “a discriminatory policy.”
The real discrimination is the abortion industry’s targeting of minority and low-income women, not the Hyde Amendment’s restrictions on abortion funding.
Tragically, DeLauro has delivered on her promise to provide taxpayer funding of abortion. The U.S. House of Representatives excluded the Hyde Amendment from the Covid relief package. Though senators attempted to reinstate the protections of the Hyde Amendment to the bill, they were unsuccessful at overcoming their pro-abortion colleagues.
This means that any amount from the $249 billion appropriated by Congress as Covid relief for state and federal funding can very easily be used to pay for abortions.
As a defender of Life and an American patriot, your immediate action is needed to contact your U.S. representatives. Tell them to defend the Hyde Amendment by demanding that Hyde be included in the 2021 Covid relief package.
Here is what you need to know.
- Although the amendment has been renewed annually for over forty years, Hyde has never been made a permanent law. This means the critical restrictions placed on abortion funding by the Hyde Amendment require Congress to attach Hyde to Congressional appropriations bills each year. This is why continually renewed Pro-Life action in Congress is always required.
- The Hyde Amendment is by no means a radical policy. Since the amendment’s first passage in 1976, Hyde has been seen as a commonsense, middle-ground restriction on abortion. Until now, even abortion advocates have understood that taxpayers should not be forced to pay for procedures they consider immoral.
- By purposely excluding the Hyde Amendment from the 2021 Covid-19 relief package, House Democrats are seeking to send tax dollars to the abortion industry. In effect the so-called “American Rescue Plan Act of 2021” is in truth a front for funneling tax dollars to the abortion industry.
Americans should not be forced to pay for abortion.
Contact your U.S. representative now and tell them the Hyde Amendment MUST BE INCLUDED in the Covid-19 relief package. Without the Hyde provision American taxpayers will be forced into paying for the murder of America’s most vulnerable children.
