Overview:
Texas Right to Life (TRL) is the oldest and largest statewide Pro-Life organization in Texas, grounded in Christian principles that advocate for protecting innocent human Life from fertilization to natural death through peaceful, legal, and prayerful means.

The Legislative Associate will work as part of a dynamic team dedicated to drafting, lobbying for, and overseeing the implementation of life-affirming laws through writing, advocacy, and engaging at all levels of government. The legislative team also supports the election of Pro-Life candidates through its political action initiatives, in which the legislative associate will assist. This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact by shaping legislative outcomes that protect innocent human Life from fertilization to natural death.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on public policy, legislation, and medical ethics issues
  • Draft articles, updates, and policy materials for supporters and stakeholders
  • Track legislative, regulatory, and legal developments at all levels of government
  • Engage with supporters, public officials, media, and Capitol staff
  • Support lobbying efforts, public testimony, and grassroots initiatives
  • Assist with administrative and operational tasks within the legislative department
  • Participate in public speaking and outreach events, including travel as needed
  • Assist with vetting and supporting the election of Pro-Life candidates
  • Assist the Media and Communications team with legislative content

Required Qualifications

  • Commitment to a Christ-centered life
  • Strong Pro-Life convictions that align with Texas Right to Life mission and values, including belief in the protection of human Life from fertilization to natural death
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Basic understanding of public policy and the legislative process
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills
  • High level of organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Adaptability in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
  • Self-motivated 
  • Maintain reliable personal transportation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in public policy, law, medical ethics, or the Pro-Life movement
  • Familiarity with political campaigns or lobbying
  • Social media or marketing experience

Work Schedule:

This role regularly requires more than 40 hours per week, including evenings and weekends. Travel, including overnight trips and short-notice commitments, is expected. Vacation blackout periods apply during the legislative session, any relevant special sessions, and leading up to TRL’s annual gala (typically in September).

Location:

This position is based in Austin, Texas. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to Austin. During the Texas Legislative Session (January–May of odd-numbered years) and any special sessions, work will primarily take place at the State Capitol. Outside of session, this role is remote, with regular in-person meetings and events in Austin.

Compensation: 

This position is an hourly wage and includes paid vacation, medical, and dental insurance. Wages will be determined based on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
