Baby Found Buried in Backyard After At-Home Abortion

Authorities in Pennsylvania recently discovered the remains of a baby buried in a backyard, weeks after the teen mother reportedly took illegal abortion pills.

A witness told police that the situation began in April 2024 when the teenage girl learned she was pregnant, according to an affidavit. After visiting an abortion facility, she was informed that she was too far along for a clinical abortion. Instead, she and her mother allegedly obtained abortion pills online to perform the DIY abortion at home.

If the mother was truly beyond the legal limit for a clinical abortion, she was likely at least 24 weeks pregnant. At this stage, babies have a good chance of survival with medical care—42-59% at 24 weeks and 76% at 25 weeks.

A friend of the suspect told police that the teen took the abortion pills on May 9. The next day, she texted her friend, saying the baby had “come out” and described him or her as “a full baby.”

According to the friend, the mother seemed shocked at the baby’s development, noting that the child already had “fingernails and lips and a nose.”

At just six to eight weeks of pregnancy, a baby’s eyes, nose, mouth, and ears begin to form. By 24 weeks, the baby is approximately the size of an ear of corn, with fully developed facial features. Although the abortion industry rejects preborn babies as mere “clumps of cells,” reality tells a different story.

The mother later texted the suspect, saying, “We kept the baby in a little box so we can bury it.” However, she also admitted to keeping the baby’s body in a container under her bed for two to three weeks before finally burying him or her in the backyard.

Killing babies with abortion pills is treated like an easy-at-home DIY project. Precious children deserve dignity and Life, not easier ways to destroy them and dispose of their bodies.

Sadly, this is not an isolated incident. In Texas alone, 19,000 abortion pills were illegally requested online last year. That’s why Texas Right to Life has been working with your lawmakers in Austin to pass the Woman and Child Protection Act (SB 2880 by Sen. Hughes). If passed, this bill would allow citizens to sue companies and groups that sell, deliver, or advertise illegal abortion pills.

We ask you to join us in prayer for this mother—that she may find repentance and salvation through Christ. Please also pray for the passage of the Woman and Child Protection Act, so that more innocent lives can be saved from abortion.
