Awards season often brings dramatic speeches filled with political statements, self-praise, and Hollywood activism. But when Kieran Culkin took the stage at the Oscars, he did something refreshingly different—he dedicated his moment in the spotlight to the people who matter most: his wife and children.
Culkin, best known for his role in Succession, has been acting since childhood, with early appearances in Home Alone, Father of the Bride, and more recently A Real Pain, the film that earned him his first Oscar. But instead of using his speech to boast about his career, he turned it into a tribute to his family.
“I have to thank my wife Jazz for absolutely everything,” he said, “…for giving me my favorite people in the world.”
Culkin and his wife, Jazz Charton, have two young children—five-year-old Kinsey Sioux and three-year-old Wilder Wolf. The actor has been open about how fatherhood has shaped his life and career, often choosing projects based on how they fit into his family’s needs and schedule.
However, the most touching (and humorous) part of his speech was when he exposed a private conversation with his wife about growing their family.
“About a year ago, I was on the stage like this, and I very stupidly, publicly, said that I want a third kid from her because she said if I won the award, she would give me the kid. Turns out she said that ’cause she didn’t think I was gonna win…. After the show we’re walking through a parking lot the parking lot… she goes, ‘Oh, God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid.’

And I turned to her and said, ‘Really, I want four.’ And she turned me, I swear… this happened, it was just over a year ago, she said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.’
I held my hand out, she shook it, and I have not brought it up once until just now. You remember that, honey? You do? Okay, then I just have this to say to you, Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you.
I’m really sorry I did this again. Let’s get cracking on those kids, what do you say? I love you.”
The audience laughed and celebrated, but beneath the humor was something rare in Hollywood: a man who treasures his role as a husband and father above all else.
In a world where fame often takes priority over family, Kieran Culkin’s speech was a beautiful reminder of what really matters. As he once said in a podcast interview with Terry Gross, fatherhood is “the greatest thing, way better than I could have imagined.”
On Oscar night, he made it clear that no award could ever compare to the joy of being a husband and dad. Praise God for Kieran Culkin and the growing presence of strong family values in the media!
