Beto O’Rourke Holds Abortion Rally in Houston, Places Election Hopes on Abortion

Gubernatorial candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke held an abortion rally in downtown Houston this Mother’s Day weekend.

Speaking to MSNBC reporters covering his rally, the twice failed candidate attacked Pro-Life laws that defend preborn babies, saying “that is not us, that is not the people of Texas.”

O’Rourke went on to assert that “the majority of us want to make sure that we protect a woman’s right to choose, to make her own decisions about her own body.”

When asked whether any legal restrictions should be placed on abortion, O’Rourke refused to draw any line on abortion, repeating, “what most of us in Texas agrees on, is that this is a decision for a woman to make.”

Yet Beto’s position on abortion is simply not broadly popular nor held by the majority of Texans. Beto has made himself very clear, when he says he believes in a woman’s right to choose he means he supports all forms of abortion all the way to birth. In the past Beto has even voiced his unequivocal support for brutal late-term abortion.

O’Rourke believes all abortion, even the cruelest forms, should be allowed up to the moment the baby is being born. The American people, and Texans, disagree.

A Gallup poll conducted May, 2021, found that the majority of respondents (52%) believed abortion should be illegal in all or most circumstances.

What are those circumstances? The stage of pregnancy plays a major role in the general public’s opinions on abortion. According to Gallup, 65% of Americans believe abortion should be illegal at the second trimester of pregnancy. An overwhelming 81% of Americans believe abortion should be illegal at the third trimester.

Despite Beto’s fanfare and assertions that the majority of Texans support his vision of unrestricted abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, this is simply not true by the numbers.

Radical support and rage for abortion is just not popular in Texas. Yet, Democrats continue to refuse to accept reality and cling to the blind faith that abortion is a winning issue. During his abortion rally, Beto placed all his bets on abortion.

According to Beto, his campaign will win in November because of Wendy Davis (forgetting her serial failures). Davis made national headlines in 2013 for her failed attempt to block a Texas Pro-Life law. She then went on to run a failed campaign built around her abortion radicalism. Once more in 2020, she ran for office, losing her congressional bid to Pro-Life hero Representative Chip Roy. During a presser O’Rourke announced, “the reason we’re going to win is because of Wendy Davis and because of what she did in 2014.”

By ignoring polling numbers and imitating a failed campaign, Beto is proving his delusion and setting himself up to lose his third election in a row. Yet he is not alone, Democrats across the country are betting all their election hopes on abortion. But polling suggests they are in for a major disappointment come November.
