Last week, President Donald Trump announced that Scott Turner, former Texas state representative, is joining his administration. Turner is the executive director of the new White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council.
From the Cabinet Room, President Trump said, “Scott, I want to thank you for doing such a good job, but your results hopefully in a year or two or three will be very well-suited. That’s when I’m really going to thank you.”
The White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council was created last December when President Trump signed an executive order. The purpose of the council is to aim federal resources at designated opportunity zones to encourage investment in struggling communities.
Turner, who was a professional football player before entering business and serving as a Texas legislator, said during the announcement, “I have been blessed to play on a lot of teams. … This is the greatest team.”
Turner, who now resides in Frisco, was a strongly Pro-Life representative in the Texas House from 2013 to 2016. During his time in the Texas Legislature, Turner was instrumental in efforts to end taxpayer funding of anti-Life, embryo-destroying research at Texas universities. Turner’s amendment to the state budget that would have blocked all funding of embryo-destroying research failed to pass due to obstruction by anti-Life Republicans.
Before his time in the Texas Legislature, Turner played football for the University of Illinois and spent nine seasons in the NFL playing for the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, and Denver Broncos.
Turner currently serves on the boards of trustees for Baylor University Medical Center and Dallas Baptist University. He and his wife, Robin, are active members of Prestonwood Baptist Church, and Turner occasionally serves as a guest pastor for the community.
Turner’s appointment is consistent with President Trump’s Pro-Life policies thus far in office. Throughout his first term, President Trump and his administration have advanced Pro-Life policies, including blocking federal tax dollars from going to Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business.
The Trump administration has also taken on the anti-Life policies that previously allowed for the purchase of aborted babies for research. In December, the Trump administration announced a commitment to invest $20 million over the next two years in research seeking ethical alternatives to the use of tissue harvested from aborted babies. Specifically, the funding is intended for research that looks for another means of mimicking the human immune system without relying on human tissue derived from elective abortion.
There is no surprise that President Trump has found another member of his team in Texas. In his State of the Union Address earlier this year, President Trump called on Congress to pass life-saving legislation to protect pain-capable preborn babies, a move which would follow Texas’s lead on protecting innocent human Life and moving toward overturning Roe v. Wade.
Texas Right to Life congratulates Mr. Turner on his appointment. Pro-Life Texans are encouraged to have such a stalwart serving in the Trump Administration.
