Planned Parenthood Funding Questioned

Across the country, Planned Parenthood receives federal funding.  As Pro-Life advocates, we have been fighting to end this taxpayer support of abortion.  In addition to the moral concerns of funding a group that makes its profit from ending human life, new concerns about Planned Parenthood’s practices have recently been arising.

The former Chief Financial Officer of Planned Parenthood of Los Angeles has alleged that their accounting practices are fraudulent.  P. Victor Gonzalez has claimed that he witnessed millions of dollars of fraudulent overbilling to state and federal governments.  He claims that after he brought these practices to Planned Parenthood’s attention, he was fired.

According to an article by FoxNews, “in one year Gonzalez says PPLA paid $225,955 for Ortho Tri-Cyclen birth control pills, yet billed the government $918,084—for a profit of $692,388.35.”  Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California insists that they did nothing illegal or improper.

Gonzalez’s legal representative claims that the issues described by Gonzalez are so wide-spread that they are at the level of “ACORN-like corruption.”  The government has audited other Planned Parenthood affiliates and has found affiliates in New Jersey and Washington state with similar financial discrepancies.  The government should not be spending our tax dollars on corrupt organizations and, more importantly, organizations that promote abortion.
